Appreciation & Acknowledgments

Thank you to the beautiful spirits who have joined me on this journey of reclamation, courage, and hope. Without you, Mokwa would not exist, and I would not be here.

The depth of gratitude I feel for each of you is beyond words.

What we build from the heart, we never build alone

HONORING

Legacy & Lineage

The opportunity to create this space, as well as to develop as a guide and facilitator, is in large part due to the influence, support, and encouragement of a singular woman – Elizabeth James Johnson.

Johnson, as a highly skilled, vibrant, and passionate plant medicine teacher, serves the Pacific, and the wider world, with an unmatched gift.

As a mentor and teacher, she has enriched countless lives, deepening their connection to spirit, allowing them to find freedom through the ceremonial use of traditional plant medicines.

A Harvard graduate, accomplished horsewoman, and expert animal trainer and behaviorist taught by the likes of B.F. Skinner and David McClelland, Elizabeth was the divine mentor needed for Mokwa’s creation and continued success.

Training in her linEage has been a supreme honor.

Our teachings are grounded in the beauty of her wisdom.

MOMENTS OF MUTUAL LOVE

  • I still feel the positive impact of both Christina as a person, and her teachings, today.

She is naturally adept at, not only teaching, but general human connection, due to her ability to be empathetic and intentional in everything that she does.

Christina is talented at creating safe spaces. She makes it clear to all who know her, her clients, students, friends, family, and any person that crosses her path, that she is there to do more, do good, and be a place of pure presence and safety.

When I was going through a time of change and difficulty, Christina was the person who sat with me and gave me the moment of stillness that I needed, and I will never forget the genuine care and empathy she had for me.

I am incredibly grateful to have met Christina because she graced me with her gift – the gift that she gives so graciously to everyone – her empathy, her knowledge, and her open heart.”

Paul Nootbaar

Canyon Lake, California

Paul Nootbaar is breaking new ground at the intersection of psychedelic medicine, community based care, and trauma treatment. After sharing his story of survival with Mark LaIta on the celebrated YouTube channel Soft White Underbelly, Nootbaar began his journey of healing on the path of plant medicines.

As a father, founder, and facilitator, Nootbaar directs his practice towards serving survivors of similar lived experience, with a focus on fatherhood and mature masculinity.

The Morpho Project aims to unite psychedelic, holistic, and community centered care – connecting individuals in need to peer and support staff with the expertise, shared experience, and empathy to compassionately hold clients experiencing a myriad of mental health struggles.

As of summer 2024, Christina Mokwa and Paul Nootbaar joined forces – collaborating via Mokwa.org and The Morpho Project – to serve survivors of childhood sexual abuse nationwide.

“As rates of suicide, overdose, and depression continue to skyrocket, our society is desperate for improved systems of support. It’s time to normalize the conversation around psychedelics and plant medicines – which have been central to human culture from the very beginning. We believe that now is the perfect time to share our own transformational stories involving psychedelics, to change the public narrative – both for us and for future generations.”
